Mark Donovan

About Mark

I’ve been practising employment law for over 21 years—first as a senior solicitor at a large national firm, then as a barrister since 2009.

Most of my work involves representing employers and employees in mediation, in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court, or conducting independent workplace investigations. But I also advise on the processes that come before disputes—disciplinary matters, performance management, restructuring—where getting it right the first time avoids litigation later.

I’m not a bulldog lawyer. I don’t escalate for the sake of it. What I do well is synthesise the facts, identify what actually matters, and help you articulate your position clearly. Clients tell me they value efficiency and getting to resolution without unnecessary delay.

I hold BA and LLB (Hons) degrees from the University of Auckland and am a certified workplace investigator (AWI-CH). I’m a member of the New Zealand Bar Association and was previously a member of The Law Association’s Employment Law Committee.
